All three walks (3.5 miles, 5 miles & 10 miles) start and finish at St Anne's School, Windermere, and all three take in the ascent of Orrest Head (one of Alfred Wainwright's favourite view points) which gives a glorious panorama of Lake Windermere and the surrounding high fells beyond.
Walkers will be able to go at their own pace knowing that all the routes have coloured markers and that Marshalls wearing high visibility jackets will be on duty along each of the walks to provide help and support. All will be equipped with phones and radios and an emergency vehicle will be stationed at a strategic point. Police and Mountain Rescue have been notified of this event.
Although none of the walks are too strenuous they will take you over a variety of different terrain, roads, farm, stony tracks, footpaths across fields, through woods and gates (please close them behind you) and over stiles. Consequently boots or off road trainers are recommended. Due to the varied terrain these walks are not suitable for wheelchairs or pushchairs.
All walkers must check in at St Anne's School Sports Hall to register and pay their entry fee (if not already paid in advance) and they will be given a coloured card with a number on it. Walkers will also be given a route map and directions for which ever walk they have chosen. All walkers who complete any of the walks will be entitled to a Walk Certificate.
The walks will open at 10.00 and walkers may start at anytime up to 12 noon.
